The Coptic Orthodox Church said on 6 October 2026 that Pope Tawadros II received Anba David, Bishop of New York and New England from the United States of America, at the Papal Headquarters in Cairo. Anba David was accompanied by Sister Veronica from the Monastery of Saint Demiana in Al-Barari.

During the meeting, Anba David submitted a request to the Pope to allow the commencement of work on the construction of a new monastery for nuns in Karma of the Virgin Mary in the state of Massachusetts. The church said the monastery would be under the diocese and would be named the Monastery of the Holy Virgin Mary and Saint Mary the Egyptian the Penitent.

The Pope provided spiritual advice and guidance to Sister Veronica regarding the spiritual foundations for starting an authentic monastic life in the planned monastery, according to the church.
