These terms apply to coptic-news.com and to everything published on it.

Use of the site

The content of Coptic News is provided for general information. The site may change, correct or remove content at any time and without notice. No statement is made that content is complete, current or free of error.

Licence

The text of every story on Coptic News is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence, known as CC BY 4.0. Story text may be copied, redistributed and adapted for any purpose, including a commercial one, on the licence's conditions: credit, a link to the licence, and a note of any change. For the credit, the name Coptic News with a link to the story is enough.

Quotations from third parties inside a story are not covered by the licence.

The licence is irrevocable: what has been published under it stays available under it.

Every story is also available as plain Markdown, at the story's address followed by index.md.

Content

Stories rest on published sources, which are listed with the story, or on reporting sent in by contributors. Content is reviewed before publication. A statement by a government, a church or an organisation is reported as what that body said. Stories are signed by a desk, which is the byline of a section.

Some subjects are not covered, where an error could harm a person or where the facts cannot be settled from published sources: allegations against a person who has not been convicted, matters involving children, proceedings in progress, and the like.

Corrections

An error that is identified in a published story is corrected, and a dated notice that says what changed is added to the story. Every notice is listed at Corrections. A story may also be withdrawn, after which its address answers "not found".

Submissions

By sending a story to Coptic News, the sender confirms that they may publish it and agrees to its publication under the Licence above. A submission may be declined without a reason being given. Nothing is paid for a submission. A submission that is published appears as it was sent. The site is under no obligation to publish a submission or to reply to one.

Links

Links to other websites are provided for reference. The content and the accessibility of those websites are not under the site's control.

Privacy

The site sets no cookies and carries no analytics or tracking script; its pages carry no script at all. There are no accounts, no newsletter and no advertising. Fonts and styles are served from coptic-news.com. A page asks no other site for anything.

A request for a page goes to the provider that hosts the site, which keeps standard request logs under its own privacy policy. The site keeps no record of its readers.

Email sent to the site is received through a third-party email service and kept for as long as it is needed to deal with what was written.

Accessibility

The site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That is a target, not a claim of conformance. Every page is plain HTML and reads without JavaScript. The light and dark colour schemes follow the setting of the device. Each page has a skip link, and there is a stylesheet for printing. Automated requests

Requests that this site makes to other websites identify themselves with a user agent that names this page and a contact address; where a page is read for its content, robots.txt and comparable signals are followed. Write to fetcher@coptic-news.com about them.
