The Catholic Church in Egypt said on 23 September 2026 that Anba Thomas Adly, Bishop of the Diocese of Giza, Fayoum, and Beni Suef for the Coptic Catholics, presided over the inauguration of the Institute of Religious Education in Fayoum. The event took place at the Holy Family Church in Fayoum.

The opening ceremonies began with Vespers prayer from the Agpeya and were attended by Father Boutros Anwar, the parish priest and director of the institute, and Father Romany Fawzy, Dean of the Theological College in Maadi. Other attendees included several priests, nuns, students of the institute, and members of various churches, the church said.

Bishop Anba Thomas Adly expressed happiness regarding the inauguration and emphasized the importance of formation, study, and deepening faith in the lives of the Church's children, the church said. The Bishop encouraged priests to focus on encouraging youth and children of the Church to undergo formation, stating that knowledge and faith go hand in hand. He also called on students to benefit from their studies and continue their formation with seriousness and commitment.

Father Boutros Anwar said the academic and formation program spans three years to provide integrated Christian formation to help students understand the Holy Bible and the teachings of the Catholic Church. The Bishop delivered a lecture titled Introductions to the Holy Bible, Revelation, and Inspiration to mark the start of the first academic year.
